Homework problems fall into three categories: Required, Honors and Practice.
Required and practice problems will typically be standard calculus problems from the textbook. Hand in only the required problems. The practice problems are ones that I think are especially helpful for studying, but you should not hand in solutions as part of the weekly homework assignments (of course, it's OK to ask me about them).
The Honors problems will typically be more challenging, wide-ranging or open-ended than the other problems. You can accumulate up to 50 points worth of points on the Honors problems; I'll try to assign about 6-8 points worth of Honors problems each week, so to some extent you can choose which problems to do based on your personal taste.
Please turn in the Honors problems separately from the Required problems.

There will be a short test, worth 50 points, in class on Wednesday, September 9. This is intended mainly to give you some early sense of how you are doing in the class.
There will be a test worth 100 points in class on Friday, November 13. (Note the date change; this was originally announced as November 6.) The test will focus on textbook sections 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.5, 4.6, and 4.8.
After the redo, the mean score was 70/100. Here is a letter-grade scale (unofficial):
Honors Project #1 was due on Monday, October 5.
Honors Project #2 is due on Monday, December 7. Check your e-mail for your group assignment.
The Gateway Exam is an online exam that is designed to test your familiarity with the technical rules of differentiation (covered in Chapter 3 of the textbook). The deadline to pass the exam was October 23. Complete information is available on the Math Department Gateway website.
All Math 121/141 students took a common midterm exam on Tuesday, October 13, 5:45 - 7:45 PM. Questions and answers are now available.
The common Math 121/141 final exam is scheduled for Monday, December 14, 4:30 - 7:00 PM. All Math 141 students will take the exam in Snow 120. The exam is worth 300 points. You are responsible for everything up to and including section 6.4 of the textbook, except for sections 4.8 (Newton's method), 5.9 (approximate integration), and 6.2 (volumes).
The 121/141 instructors will be staffing a help room the week before the exam: 2:30-4:00 PM, 651 Snow, every day from Monday 12/7 through Friday 10/11. (These are not formal review sessions, but rather opportunities for you to ask specific questions.)
Here is the sample final exam.
